It seems that every year, there are ten new weight loss programs or diets to try. They can vary greatly in the methods used actually to get the results you want. Some take longer; some have stricter dietary requirements, etc. One such diet plan is the ketogenic, or “keto” diet. It’s become popular in the last couple of years primarily because it claims to use the body’s own fat burning power for weight loss, and thanks to celebrities. It’s also said to be a great meal plan regimen for anyone suffering of Type 2 Diabetes, because it helps lower blood sugar levels. Other benefits include anti-aging properties, improving brain functions and bowel movement. Many supporters of this lifestyle claim to have more energy that lasts longer. However, many experts warn of the possible risks of the keto diet, and we’ll look at some here. 1.     Losing Hydration and Muscle Mass The reason that the keto diet can work so well and so quickly is that a lot of the weight being lost is in the …

The Truth about Green Juices & Smoothies

Are you always opting for a green juice or smoothie to accompany or replace your meal instead of ingesting the vegetables itself? If you are a wellness champion doing this regularly, you must read on to ensure that you are drinking the right greens for your long term health! Drinking green juices and smoothies is becoming an uptrend among health aficionados, who believe that drinking them every day or a few times each week is healthy and helps in alkalising the body. This is also especially so with numerous celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Blake Lively who swear by this special diet that makes them feel energised, enjoy glowing skin and shed pounds effortlessly. “Kale, celery, apple, cucumber and a squeeze of lemon. I make my own juice every day at home. It really makes a difference. I can feel my body – everything’s going to way it should and I then I don’t feel guilty if I don’t get to eat my five a day of vegetables.”[1]             …

Oil Pulling for Oral Health (and other benefits!)

After a long hiatus of blogging, I decided to write about Oil Pulling, a daily habit I started a few months ago 🙂 I was advised by my holistic dentist to try oil pulling to remove bacteria and promote healthy teeth and gums. It seems simple enough so I decided to try! Originating from Ayurvedic medicine, oil pulling is a oral detoxification procedure that is simply done by swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes. I use organic coconut oil, but sesame/olive oil works as well! Process: Do oil pulling first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything  Swish a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes, drawing them through your teeth. (I do this then either bathe/do other morning chores) Spit the oil out into the trash can. Do NOT spit into sink or toilet bowl to prevent clogging. (Usually the clear oil would become whitish as our saliva and bacteria would have interacted with the oil) Do tongue-scrapping (You should see a lot of thick white thick …

Since then, he has not just recovered but in 2014, Riemann and his team launched the world’s first personalised health tool PH360 based on gene expression, combining concepts of Chinese medicine, Ayurveda and conventional medicine to produce a platform with the ability to predict the exact foods, fitness, environments and lifestyle – or epigenetic factors – to make intuitive decisions for one to stay healthy and avoid disease. So, to start …
