Purwa Water Distiller

Water Distiller: Purwa Water Distiller

After sharing with many people my concern on over-chlorination in our drinking water, quite a few people have asked me which water distiller I use. I use the Purwa Water Distiller. Firstly, what is distillation? Distillation is nature’s way of cleaning water. Water evaporates from the earth’s surface after rain, leaving impurities behind, and re-condenses into clouds to produce rain. Distillation process replicates this same mechanism. “Distillation is a water purification process that uses a heat source to vaporize water and separate it from contaminants and other undesirable elements commonly found in ground and surface water. Distillation heats raw (untreated) water until the water reaches its boiling point and begins to vaporize. The heat is then kept at a constant temperature to maintain water vaporization while prohibiting other undesirable elements from vaporizing. Water has a lower boiling point than salt and other mineral sediments. This process also separates the water molecules from microscopic, disease-causing organisms. Once all of the water has vaporized, the vapor is led into a condenser, where, upon cooling, the water reverts …

Getting rid of Chlorine exposure in your showers!

Following my research on the potential ills of over-chlorination in our drinking water, I became very curious about how much chlorine we absorb during our showers. Apparently, we absorb more chlorine during a 10-minute shower than by drinking 8 glasses of tap water. (1) Most substances applied on skins can be absorbed into our blood streams via our porous skin within minutes, not to mention our skin is our largest organ and is fully soaking in chlorinated water! This video shows the speed at which chlorine can be absorbed into our blood stream: Video: See how quickly chlorine is absorbed into our bodies through the skin. The focus on chlorinating water has been to eliminate pathogens, and with good reason. According to a study conducted by the Natural Resources Defense Council, more than 120 million people (about 50% of the population) may get unsafe water  for consumption. Hence, chlorination of drinking water significantly reduced mortality rates associated with waterborne pathogen. However, research is starting to reveal the risks of over-chlorination. For example, some have claimed that a substantial …

Is Chlorine Safe In Our Drinking Water?

The focus on drinking water has been to eliminate pathogens, and with good reason. For example, some have claimed that a substantial portion of the cancer risk associated with drinking chlorinated water; duration of exposure to chlorinated surface water was associated with bladder cancer risk among women and nonsmokers of both sexes. (1)  Research from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands discovered that people who swam in chlorinated pools or polluted waters as children had 2.2 to 2.4 times the risk of developing melanoma compared to those who did not swim in chlorinated waters. (2) “Chlorination of water rich in organic material is known to produce a complex mixture of organochlorine compounds, including mutagenic and carcinogenic substances. A historical cohort study of 621,431 persons living in …
