Blue Lagoon @ Reykjavík, Iceland

Updated Aug 7, 2016 – We managed to make it back in summer 2016 after our 2014 visit and I must say Blue Lagoon is more photogenic when there is more sunlight 🙂 Updated with our summer pics! Enjoy! — Blue Lagoon was the only man-made place in Iceland I really wanted to visit! Named one of National Geographic’s “25 Wonders of the World,” Blue Lagoon is famous for its geothermal BLUE seawater bath, which is known for its healing effect and active ingredients including minerals, silica and algae. The geothermal seawater originates 2,000 meters beneath the earth’s surface under Iceland. As the water travels through porous lava (Iceland is known for its volcanic activity), a blend of sea and fresh water undergoes mineral exchange and then near the surface, concentration occurs, due to vaporization, evaporation and finally, sedimentation. The geothermal seawater is led directly from the original source to the lagoons at the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa, and all the minerals gives it the distinct light BLUE colour.  The lagoon holds six million liters of geothermal …

Eatprayflying’s Top 8 Villa Vacations you must stay in! Awesome for Honeymoons! (Thailand & Bali)

After all our crazy hard work in Singapore, it is always important to sharpen our saw and take a pit stop for a long marathon. So for those planning for your upcoming December holidays, these are our top villa vacation stays in across Thailand and Bali. And yes, I admit I have a bias to modern looking boutique villa architecture 🙂 1) Villa Noi @ Phuket Villa Noi is a private family holiday villa. It is the most luxurious villa I have ever been to; there are really only 3 villas on almost 2000 square meters of land. Villa Noi has a private chef, driver and manager. I am still confirming how the public books this villa and will update shortly! 2) Sala Khaoyai @ Khaoyai A boutique resort with only around 10 very private rooms and villas. Sala Khaoyai is our second favourite because it is set in the mountains, which also means it can get to under 20 degrees celcius at night, so you get to enjoy the temperate weather and vineyards within a 2.5 hour …

Spa VI @ Aleenta, Hua Hin

As part of our room package, Aleenta @ Hua Hin gave us a free 30 min massage voucher to enjoy massage in their inhouse spa – Spa VI. We of course went to redeem it with a Thai massage. The spa is relatively small, and is on the 3rd floor, right above the breakfast area. There is a indoor aircon or outdoor al fresco option. The view from the outdoor massage room is simply spectacular – opening up to the view of sea and crashing waves. However, it was a warm and humid day, so we opted for the indoor aircon option. But the view was still good through the glass, and the waves are so strong, this spa didn’t need “background music” – the sound of real waves was the background music as we enjoyed the free massage. After Maya Ubud Spa, this would be the next most relaxing spa I have been to. Highly recommend for spa junkies in for the experience, especially if you have been trekking in the National Park, like …

bvilla @ Seminyak, Bali

bvilla was a surprise find when I went to Bali in 2009 with Miss L. We were originally staying in another resort, and went to the spa at bvilla+spa, and we loved it so much, we ended up cancelling our resort and moving to bvilla! The manager of bvilla was very friendly and decided to show us around the estate and opened up a 2-room villa to show us. bvilla is really built for the modern. They have villas ranging from one to five-bedrooms, with decor that is very modern with a slight Balinese touch.  It is also very conveniently located at Seminyak, near to many restaurants, cafes, shops and art galleries. Like I mentioned, we were so convinced we went back to our resort to cancel the last night stay to move our last night in Bali to experience bvilla stay for ourselves in the 1 bedroom villa at bvilla+seaside. bvilla has 3 different properties –  bvilla+spa, bvilla+pool, and bvilla+seaside, and since we already seen bvilla+spa, we decided to try the seaside one! The most amazing experience …

Maya Ubud Resort and Spa @ Ubud, Bali

I visited Maya Ubud Resort and Spa in Bali back in 2010, and it remains one of my favourite tropical resorts in Asia. This was recommended by my ex-boss who is Indonesian, and since he is local, I booked Maya Ubud without researching much, and it was a very good recommendation indeed! I had an enjoyable relaxing stay with Miss A, and fond memories of the resort still lingering after almost 4 years. It was also the first time I went to Bali not for the beach, but for mountains and scenery. The Spa (Spa at Maya) is possibly the MOST relaxing spa I have ever gone to in my life. Maya Ubud is ~1 hour from Bali’s  international airport. It only has 108 luxury guestrooms and private pool villas on many hectares of land, with a river running through the resort, so it is extremely private, quiet and picturesque. We stayed in the lowest tier room  in Maya Ubud  (Superior Room) and it was already very comfortable. The room was ~40 square meters, with 2 single beds, …

Sala Phuket

I went to Sala Phuket a while ago, but Sala Phuket remains one of my favourite boutique resorts in the region so I decided to do a post-dated feature. I have also stayed in Marriott and Twin Palms in Phuket but looking back, the memories of Sala Phuket still beats the rest for me. Not my best set of photos either (wasn’t thinking of having a blog previously) but I will let the pictures do the talking! In the Garden Pool Villa, the bedroom overlooked an outdoor veranda, gardens and a private swimming pool, which I felt was really private as it was a walled up garden, and the people living on top did not have windows to look down. Sala Phuket also has an award winning Beach Restaurant. My food shots were really bad so I won’t share them as they won’t do justice to the food, but you will definitely get to try if you stayed in Sala as they offer free breakfast. I loved how the poolview at breakfast immediately relaxes the mind and …

Maya Spa @ Khaoyai

As I wanted to drive to visit Muthimaya, where I stayed for a work trip 4 years ago, N and I decided to visit Maya Spa, which is situated in the Kirimaya-Muthimaya Resort.  Maya spa is definitely premium –  1900bht for 2 hours Thai massage. But it was really worth the calming, relaxing experience with quality deep (painful) massage. Honestly, it felt more like a sports massage! As part of the free value added service in Maya spa, the masseur also gave me free hair braiding service. First time I got my hair braided 🙂  Other places in the Khaoyai region you may also enjoy: Thailand – Khaoyai region Resort – Sala Khaoyai (I) Resort – Sala Khaoyai (II) Attraction – Khaoyai National Park Attraction – Gran Monte Vineyard Attraction – Palio Massage – The Housekeeper of the Mu Si – Only 300baht for 1.5hr Foot Massage! Restaurant – Vino Restaurant – Mori Street Food – Meatball Noodles
